Transfer Students Frequently Asked Questions
1. On my Hunter transcript, one of the transferred English
courses says "See Dept." What should I do?
You need to see an English Department advisor. Bring with
you a copy of your Hunter transcript, and a detailed description
of the transferred course, from the original college's
catalogue or website (or, if available, a course syllabus). The
advisor will determine which course at Hunter your transferred course
is equivalent to and will complete a form stating this equivalency.
Once you have taken this form to the Registrar's office, and once
it has been processed, the Hunter number will appear on your transcript
instead of "See Dept."
* A transferred course cannot be evaluated without a course description
from the original college.
* "See Dept." is equivalent to "Elective"--
but only if you do not need that course for any specific purpose,
such as major, minor, or core requirements. If it is equivalent
to "Elective," then it is not necessary to have it evaluated.
Your transcript will continue to say "See Dept.," but
you will not lose those credits. They will function as elective
credits towards the total credits required for graduation.
2. On my Hunter transcript, one of the transferred English
courses says "Pending." What should I do?
You need to see an English Department advisor. Bring with
you a copy of your Hunter transcript, and a detailed description
of the transferred course, from the original college's
catalogue or website (or, if available, a course syllabus). The
advisor will determine which course at Hunter your transferred course
is equivalent to and will complete a form stating this equivalency.
However, in this case, if you do not have the course evaluated by
an English Department advisor, those credits will not be transferred
to Hunter.
3. Can courses that I transfer to Hunter be used to satisfy
my major and minor requirements?
Yes, but you must take at least 50 percent of the courses necessary
to satisfy your major and minor requirement at Hunter College.
4. Can courses that I transfer to Hunter be used to satisfy
the Pluralism and Diversity (P&D) requirement?
Yes, but you must see an English Department advisor who will decide
which courses may be used to satisfy which P&D requirements.
