The Minor

Why Minor?

An Asian American Studies minor will enhance the critical thinking, degree, and career of students. Coursework in the field prepares students for careers in education; government and community advocacy; for entrance to professional schools and areas such as law, social work, and urban planning; and for graduate study and research in the social sciences and humanities. Students majoring in nursing or the health sciences, psychology, political science, sociology, history, business, literature, art, and many other areas will find Asian American Studies useful, particularly when their interests include activities within Asian or Asian American communities or issues that affect Asians and Asian Americans.

Students should have taken or be currently taking/registered for at least 2 ASIAN courses in order to declare a minor.

Please contact Gabriel Galindez ggalinde@hunter.cuny.edu if you would like to to set up an appointment for advisement with Dr. Vivian Louie about the program.

If you are considering a minor in Asian American Studies, please note that we recommend that you take ASIAN 210.00 (Asians in the U.S.) as one of the 12 required minor units.
