Terry Park, Asian American Studies
Raised in San Jose, Salt Lake City and Seoul, Terry Park is an activist, performance artist, and scholar. He received his BA in International Studies from Vassar College, his MA from the Gallatin School for Individualized Study at New York University, and is a PhD candidate in the Cultural Studies Graduate Group at the University of California, Davis. His dissertation, tentatively entitled "Aliens at the Border: the Korean Demilitarized Zone and the Asian/Asian American Enemy," will look at the ways in which permanent war, neoliberal governmentality, and U.S. empire produce endangered/dangerous species to be contained, saved, and corrected. As an activist, he was the international coordinator for Base21.org, a Seoul-based online progressive news network. He was also a member of Nodutdol for Korean Community Development, and has traveled to both South and North Korea through the Korea Exposure and Education Program and the DPRK Exposure and Education Program. As an award-winning actor and performance artist, he performed an off-Broadway autobiographical show entitled "38th Parallels" through the Pan Asian Repertory Theater. He has also presented character and spoken word pieces throughout New York, Boston, and the Bay Area, studied with Anna Deavere Smith, and co-founded the Sulu Series, an Asian American montly open mic at the Bowery Poetry Club.
