Theresa Navarro, Asian American Studies

 

Theresa Navarro (@theresaxtine) is a Pin@y interdisciplinary producer and cultural worker who collaborates with arts and educational organizations around the country. Her work focuses on lived experiences and media representations of local, global, and virtual negotiations of race/ethnicity, gender/sexuality, community/identity. Recent credits include: Chinatown sports documentary 9-MAN; Sundance Special Jury Award winner ADVANTAGEOUS; and the global migration transmedia project WITH WINGS & ROOTS. She now serves as Associate Producer on the Emmy-nominated public television series AMERICA REFRAMED and on staff with the Filipino American Museum startup FAM. In 2011, Theresa was recognized as one of 15 Asian Pacific American Women Leaders and has presented her work at various academic and industry-specific panels at AFI SilverDocs, Allied Media Conference, and the annual conference of the Association for Asian American Studies, among others. 

Born and raised in the SF Bay Area, Theresa studied at the University of California at Riverside and completed her graduate work at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. She currently resides in Brooklyn and is thrilled to part of the Asian American Studies Program at Hunter.
