The Charles B. Wang Community Health Center (Health Center), established in 1971, is a non-profit community based ambulatory care facility that provides comprehensive primary care, social services, and health education to mostly underserved Asian Americans in New York City.  The Pediatric Unit, located in Manhattan’s Chinatown, provides clinical services and health education to children and adolescents up to the age of 21.  The Teen Resource Center (TRC) within the Pediatric Unit of the Health Center is currently recruiting for the following position:

 

JOB TITLE:                         TEEN HEALTH EDUCATOR

 

REPORTS TO:                    PROGRAM COORDINATOR

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Provide individualized education session to teens seeking guidance at TRC on health topics including smoking cessation, STD prevention, family planning /contraceptive methods, exercise/nutrition, and  stress management

·         Develop teen appropriate health education materials with guidance from the Health Educator

·         Conduct outreach to high schools and community groups to promote the Health Center’s Adolescent Program and Services

·         Facilitate health education workshops

·         Assist in the planning and coordination of on and offsite events

·         Assist in the design and development of  teen programs

·         Promote Pediatric services

·         Other duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

·         Desire to work with youths/adolescents

·         Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team

·         Strong public speaking skills

·         Minimum 1 year commitment

·         Must be able to commit 21 hours weekly

·         Undergraduate College student

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

·         Bilingual in English/Chinese (Mandarin preferred)

·         Experience with peer education

·         Interest in health or education fields
