KALCA FALL 2009 PUBLIC SERVICE FELLOWSHIP
The Korean American League for Civic Action (KALCA) is a non-partisan, non-profit community-based organization dedicated to promoting the civic participation of Asian Pacific Americans.
It is our goal to invest in the most precious resources of our community – young men and women with talent and passion to serve the public. We aim to develop, empower and mentor second generation Asian Americans to utilize their talents to become public service leaders locally and nationally.
The Fellowship program is an nine-week program that provides college students and recent graduates an opportunity to learn about our civic and democratic processes from the inside of leading government offices, political campaigns, nonprofits and community based organizations in New York. The fellows will also participate in leadership development courses, meet government and civic leaders, explore community and cultural issues and seek career advice from professionals in a wide range of public service vocations. The fellows will receive a $500 scholarship stipend at the end of the program. The main program components are:
1. Public service internship in New York
- At least 8 weeks, 10-15 hrs per week (dependent on internship site requirements)
- School credit may be available depending on your institution’s requirements
2. Six (6) Evening roundtables and/or seminars
- Usually Wednesdays and lasts about 1 to 1 ½ hours
- Guest speakers from various public service fields
- Dinner with mentors and KALCA Board and Steering Committee Members
The Fall 2009 Fellows may apply later this year for both the Spring Fellowship Program (scholarship stipend of $500) and the Summer College Internship Program (stipend TBD. The Summer 2009 stipend was $3,000).
Applications must be emailed to sandy@kalca.org by August 31, 2009.
