Hunter has established the Academic Center for Excellence in Research & Teaching (ACERT) as a collaboration of Hunter's offices of Academic Affairs, Instructional Computing & Information Technology (ICIT), and Assessment. The primary emphasis of the Center is on integrating faculty development activities with a focus on pedagogy, technology and assessment.

ACERT engages with the Hunter community through its seminar series, which invite participants to share and discuss high-impact teaching practices and technologies that faculty can incorporate into their classrooms:

• Teaching Tuesdays: At lunchtime (12-2 pm) on Tuesdays, CUNY faculty and/or invited guests speak about methods they've used to engage students, enhance their research, and assess teaching effectiveness. Recent topics have included working with the Institutional Review Board (IRB); connecting teaching and undergraduate research; handling sensitive topics in the classroom; assessing student writing; and writing, discovery and critical thinking.  
• Tech Thursdays: At lunchtime (12-2 pm) on Thursdays, a panel of Hunter faculty discuss their experience using a range of technologies to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom. A team of educational technologists is always on hand to answer additional questions.
• Teaching Scholarship Circles: Over the course of several weeks, faculty meet for an in-depth look at pedagogical topics; recent circles have studied electronic student portfolios, or ePortfolios, and hybrid courses. Faculty participants read scholarly articles and complete other work for the meetings, which are co-facilitated by the Technology Teaching & Learning Group and other faculty leaders.
• Guided Explorations: In this workshop series, faculty are introduced to a new pedagogical approach or to a complex tool that could potentially fill many pedagogical needs.  Faculty explore scenarios in which this tool or approach might be used and begin to apply these ideas to their own teaching. Topics have included hybrid course design, ePortfolio pedagogy, and strategies for teaching with online meeting tools.  Many of these series are co-facilitated by an educational technologist and a faculty member.
