Are there strategies to make teaching as inclusive as possible? While some students provide documentation, others may not, and some may even have an assistant present to help them with their material for your class. Much confusion prevails about accommodating students with disabilities—it’s not about reducing or waiving requirements, but about improving communication so that the rigors of your subject are accessible to all students. While taking the opportunity to share ideas which have worked in your courses, we will discuss questions including:
- What are best practices for teaching accessible course content?
- How do students advocate for themselves and manage their own accommodations?
- What are optimal ways for communicating with students beyond the course content?
- How does stress and other emotional factors impair learning in students with and without disabilities?
