Laura S. Hertzog, Special Counsel to the President & Dean of Faculty and Staff Relations
Laura S. Hertzog serves as Special Counsel to the President and Dean of Faculty and Staff Relations. As the College's in-house legal counsel, she provides advice and support to the President, as well as all College administrators, on a broad array of issues, such as litigation, employment and labor law, governance, fundraising, and contracts. As Legal Affairs Designee, she works with attorneys in CUNY's Office of the General Counsel, handling employee grievances, regulatory matters, and administering and interpreting University bylaws. As Labor Designee, she manages the College's instructional staff labor relations with the Professional Staff Congress (PSC) and serves as the liaison with the office of the Vice Chancellor for Labor Relations. Ms. Hertzog also serves as the College's Chief Ethics Officer and Public Records Access Officer.
Prior to this position, she was the Director of the Diversity and Inclusion Management Program of Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations in New York City. Ms. Hertzog also formerly served as the Dean for Diversity and Compliance at Hunter, and as the Director of Global Diversity for Credit Suisse First Boston.
Ms. Hertzog practiced as a litigator, primarily in the fields of employment law and corporate litigation, at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Loeb & Loeb, LLP, and was the Director of Associate Development and Legal Personnel at Chadbourne & Parke, LLP. She holds an A.B. from Princeton University in East Asian Studies and a J.D., Cum Laude, from the University of Michigan School of Law, where she was a member of the Law Review. Ms. Hertzog held a federal clerkship in the Southern District of New York, and has been a member of the law faculty at Brooklyn Law School, Fordham Law School, and New York University School of Law.
