Senior Citizen Auditors

Each semester we welcome over 500 lifelong learners to the Hunter community. Lifelong learners over the age of 60 may audit undergraduate courses at Hunter College on a tuition-free, space-available basis. Seniors learners do not receive grades or academic credit for these courses but benefit from all of the learning outcomes of the class.

Admissions Criteria

In order to be admitted as a senior learner, you must meet the following criteria.

  • New York State resident
  • 60 years of age or older

How to apply

The application can be filed online, submitted in-person or mailed to the admissions office.

If you need assistance with filling out the application, please visit the Senior Citizens Student Association in the North Building, on the Commons Level, Room 117.

Application Priority Deadlines:

Fall Semester - May 1 Spring Semester -  January 31, 2018
Summer Session - March 15

The Winter session is not available to lifelong learners.

Additional Required Documents

In addition to the application, you will have to submit the following documentation with your application.

  • Proof of age (Medicaid card, Driver's License, birth certificate or passport)
  • Proof of New York State address


The senior learner program is free, but there are a few processing fees that will be paid at the time of registration.

  • $65 general fee due at the time of registration.
  • $15 consolidated services fee due at the time of registration.


Once you have applied and submitted all of your documents you will be notified of your admission status within 2-3 weeks via email.
