Michael Bellamy, Roosevelt Scholar, Class of 2016

Michael Bellamy

Tell us about yourself:

I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 2012. My interests include politics, international affairs and baseball. Before coming to Hunter as a Roosevelt Scholar, I volunteered for the "No on Issue 2" campaign dedicated to protecting the collective bargaining rights of Ohio's public employees. I was also an intern at then-Congressman Dennis Kucinich's district office. Since coming to New York, I have had many unique experiences, such as meeting public figures and political leaders, visiting the United Nations, and interning in the Manhattan Borough President's office over the summer.

How has your scholarship helped you?

The Roosevelt Scholarship Program will help me realize my dream of becoming a politician. Thanks to this opportunity at Hunter, I plan on majoring in political science with a minor in public policy. The scholarship will allow me to focus on my academics and prepare for law school. After graduating from Hunter, I want to attend law school, work as a prosecutor, and then go on to become an elected official at the federal level. I chose Hunter College for its location, the doors it will open for me—for my career—and because of its reputation for having such a strong Liberal Arts program.
