1 Students who live in NY State but do not live in New York City may be eligible for the same tuition as a NYC resident. To pay NYC tuition, you must submit a Certificate of Residency Form to the Bursar's Office by a specified date.
2 Tuition based on taking 15 credits per semester.

Merit Scholarship Opportunities

Scholarships come in all shapes and sizes. At Hunter, we give out over 3 million dollars a year in scholarships in a variety of formats. Below you will find just some of the opportunities we offer incoming students.

Scholarships for Freshmen

Macaulay Honors College at Hunter
A prestigious University wide honors and scholarship program for freshmen entering in the Fall semester. Please visit the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter webpage to learn more.

S&W Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to over 20 incoming freshmen each Fall. The awards range in amount and can cover up to full in-state tuition. Additional funding for housing is also awarded.

Honors Scholars Program
Programmed honors programs for entering freshmen in the Fall in eight different academic areas offering tailored classes, merit scholarships, faculty mentors, an extensive system of academic advising, priority registration, and freshman year priority access to residence life. New Visions Partnership Award
This scholarship is a partnership between Hunter College and all New Visions partner high schools. All applicants from partner NV high schools are automatically considered for awards of varying amounts. There is no supplemental application required, and selection is based on academic performance. All recipients will be notified in the spring semester.

Janovic Scholars
This scholarship is a partnership with the Manhattan Hunter High School of Science (MHHS). All applicants from MHHS are automatically considered for this award and will be notified in the Spring. Awards vary in amounts and selection is based on academic performance. There is no supplemental application requirement.

Sage Scholarship
Awarded each fall to incoming freshmen based on academic performance. Amounts are $1,000 awarded each year for four years. Please visit the Hunter Honors Scholars Program webpage to learn more.

Jenny Hunter Scholarship
Awarded each fall to incoming freshmen based on academic performance. Amounts are $1,000 awarded each year for four years. Please visit the Hunter Honors Scholars Program webpage to learn more.



Scholarships for Transfer Students

Transfer Achievement Scholarship
Awarded each spring and fall semester to incoming transfer students that have a proven record of high academic achievement. Awards range in amount from $1,000-$2,000 per academic year. To learn more please visit the Transfer Achievement Scholarship webpage.

Guttman Transfer Scholarship
An award specifically for students transferring from a CUNY community college of up to $4,000 over two years, given out in the fall and spring semesters. For more information on application procedures and deadlines please visit this webpage.

Applying for Need-Based Financial Aid

Approximately half of Hunter students receive federal or state grants to assist in paying for college. Every student planning to apply to Hunter College should file a FAFSA to determine eligibility for financial aid. Our Office of Financial Aid will serve as a resource for you both before and during your time as a Hunter student.
