MA Thesis Deadlines & Information



You are receiving this email because you are either currently enrolled in "Thesis Research" (ARTH 799) or previously enrolled and now intend to graduate. 

Our department has updated its thesis guidelines.  Please read the attached document, “Guidelines for the Preparation of Master’s Thesis in Art History,” very carefully.  

If you intend to graduate this semester, please attend to the following timeline:

Early in the semester:

·      Make sure you have activated your Hunter email account and CUNYfirst account.  For assistance, call the Student Help Desk (212) 650-3624. 

·      Check your name, address, and SSN on CUNYfirst to ensure they are correct.  To make any changes submit a Change of Name/Address Form to the One Stop office in HN 217.  The name on your diploma will be printed as it appears on your Hunter record, and all correspondence from the college will be sent to your Hunter email account.

·      Check your transcript on CUNYfirst to ensure that it is accurate and up-to-date.  Instructions on how to find your transcript are here:

o    If you registered for an E-Permit course that is not on your Hunter record, contact the host institution for the transcript.  Have an official transcript sent to Office of Records and Transcripts in HN 223.

o   Check that all courses fulfilling admission conditions are on your current Hunter record.  Proof of completion for any missing courses must be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office (HN 223).

·      If you took more than four years to complete your degree, you must fill out a Graduate Time Extension Form.  Please contact Laura Frantz for assistance.



·      TBA: submit your completed thesis to your first reader (this is a recommended deadline; first readers’ individual submission timelines may vary)

·       TBA: submit Degree Audit Application Form (DAAF, attached) to the Art Office.  Please submit in person during Laura’s office hours.

·      TBA: submit your revised thesis to your second reader (this is a recommended deadline; first readers’ individual submission timelines may vary)

·      NB: Degree Audit will probably send you an alarming email around this time, informing you that in order to graduate, you must complete your thesis, etc.  Don’t panic!  Everyone receives this email. 


End of Semester:

·      TBA: Submit the finalized thesis to the art office.  Include the signed cover page, the Thesis Approval Form, and a Bursar’s receipt, to the art office for approval by the Graduate Advisor.  See the "Guidelines for the Preparation of Master's Thesis in Art History" for complete details.

·      TBA: pay Maintenance of Matriculation (only applicable to those who are not enrolled in classes)

·      After May 22: check your Hunter email and CUNYfirst account for updates on your graduation status.  In general, no news is good news.

·      Two to four months after the semester ends: you may pick up your diploma from One Stop
