Born in Germany, Oliver Herring received his BFA from the University of Oxford, and his M.F.A from Hunter in 1991. Herring uses sculpture, performance, video, and photography to elevate the ordinary, often inviting off-the street strangers to participate in his open-ended videos and performances. He has had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the New Museum of Contemporary Art, among others. He is a recipient of numerous awards and honors including the New York Foundation for the Arts Grant and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant and is currently is represented by Max Protetch Gallery. Herring lives and works in New York City.
