The Bertha and Karl Leubsdorf Art Gallery and the 205 Hudson Street Gallery will be closed this Sunday, March 27, 2016.

The Hunter College Art Galleries serve as an integral extension of the academic programs of the Department of Art and Art History. The Galleries serve as a unique component, providing MA and MFA students with a distinctive learning environment in which they work together on professionally curated exhibitions under the guidance of senior staff and faculty.

Located in New York City, the galleries provide a space for critical engagement with art and pedagogy, bringing together historical scholarship, contemporary art practice, social awareness, and critical methodology. Since their inauguration in 1981, the galleries have been committed to producing exhibitions, events, and scholarship in dialog with the intellectual discourse generated by the faculty and students.

The Bertha and Karl Leubsdorf Art Gallery, located in the West Building of the main campus at 68th Street and Lexington Avenue, focuses on historical and scholarly exhibitions, while the 205 Hudson Street Gallery is dedicated to presenting exhibitions that examine the impact of and the critical issues around contemporary art. Each semester, the 205 Hudson Street Gallery also hosts the MFA program’s thesis exhibitions.
