About

Whether students are majoring in English literature or mathematics, Hunter College believes that an excellent higher education includes the arts. That is why we are working on an Arts Across the Curriculum initiative - a bold new program aimed at boosting interdisciplinary collaboration among Hunter's esteemed arts departments, introducing the arts into "non-arts" disciplines, and engaging with the New York arts community.

Funded by a $100,000 planning grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Arts Across the Curriculum initiative has been working with faculty to bring artists and arts-oriented curricula into classrooms, recruiting creative thinkers to speak with faculty and students, and building partnerships with New York cultural institutions to broaden students' access to the arts.

Arts Across the Curriculum has answered these questions and more during our 2011-2012 pilot-planning year. We hope this is only the beginning, as we are applying for additional funding and researching more ways to make Arts Across the Curriculum a permanent part of the Hunter College experience.
