Project Director: Dara Meyers-Kingsley

Directing the Arts Across the Curriculum initiative is Dara Meyers-Kingsley, a contemporary art curator, an arts administrator and educator. She has taught aspiring visual and media artists in Parsons' graduate program and, beginning in 2010, Hunter students in the Macaulay Honors College. Ms. Meyers-Kingsley also directs Hunter's new Muse Scholar Program for high-achieving incoming freshmen with talent in the arts (pdf).

Ms. Meyers-Kingsley is known for her expertise in interdisciplinary curatorial practice in contemporary art, media, installation, and performance. Her exhibitions have been presented throughout the United States, at LA MOCA, Miami MOCA, MCA Chicago, The New Museum, Andy Warhol Museum and the Mattress Factory, among others. Ms. Meyers-Kingsley also brings to Hunter a breadth of experience from her work with a range of NYC cultural institutions, including the Brooklyn Museum, Center for Jewish History, Andy Warhol Foundation, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and the New York State Council on the Arts. Known for bringing together professionals with diverse expertise to create new initiatives, she was one of the founders of the field of electronic media art preservation. She has lectured on media art history and preservation issues in the United States and abroad (Reina Sofia, Madrid and SMAK, Ghent) and is the author of museum catalogs and articles on Adrian Piper, Andy Warhol, 1970s video art, public art, and contemporary media.

Committee Chair: Professor Rebecca Connor

Chairing the faculty committee is Acting Associate Provost/Associate Dean for General Education Rebecca Connor of the Department of English.  Professor Connor, a scholar of 18th-century British literature, has been actively involved in various aspects of student engagement and success at Hunter for many years.  She is a former director of both English 220 and the Block program, and is the current president of Hunter's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. 

As a member of the Mellon Committee on General Education, Professor Connor developed and then directed the innovative and successful Hunter Horizons Program, an initiative designed to enrich the curricular and co-curricular experiences of incoming first-year students. Professor Connor is the author of Keeping Books: Women and Accounting in Eighteenth Century England (Routledge Press, 2004). She is presently collaborating with Professor Richard Burke of the Music Department on an opera adaptation of Matthew Lewis' gothic novel, The Monk.  She developed and oversees the 'Distinguished Living Writers' course, which has been designated a special Arts Across the Curriculum Course.

Vita C. Rabinowitz

Vita C. Rabinowitz is  Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs of Hunter College.  As Provost, Dr. Rabinowitz serves as the chief academic officer, overseeing Hunter's five schools, academic programs, centers, institutes, and initiatives, the libraries, and matters pertaining to faculty.  The Provost's Office is responsible for Hunter's academic policies, academic support services, and other issues vital to the academic quality of Hunter College.
