Professor Arlene Torres Elected Vice-President/President-Elect of the Puerto Rican Studies Association

We are pleased to announce that this past January, Dr. Arlene Torres, Associate Professor of Africana Puerto Rican/Latino Studies at Hunter College and Director of the Chancellor's Latino Faculty Initiative has been elected as Vice-President/President-Elect of the Puerto Rican Studies Association (PRSA). She served on the Executive Committee of the academic organization as a member-at-large for two years. In that capacity, Torres successfully organized a historic encounter, the first PRSA biennial symposium at Hunter College. Held in 2011, the symposium "Puerto Rican Studies for a New Century: Challenges, Prospects and Possibilities," sponsored with the support of the Chancellor's Latino Faculty Initiative, brought together leading scholars in the field. The symposium provided the framework that informed the 2012 twentieth anniversary biennial conference "Boricuas and Other Border Crossers: Of Diasporas and Latinidades" at SUNY Albany.
