Professor Margaret Chin Appears at the 92nd Street Y to Discuss Her New Book, 'Sewing Women: Immigrants and the NYC Garment Industry'

Professor Margaret Chin, whose mother and aunts worked in Chinatown’s garment industry, was at the 92nd Street Y recently to talk about her new book, Sewing Women: Immigrants and the New York City Garment Industry. Together with Annie Polland, vice president of Education at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, she discussed the lives of the Asian and Latina women who reinvigorated New York City’s garment industry in the 1990s, and their linkages to the earlier Jewish workers. Professor Chin is with the Sociology Department at Hunter College and the Graduate Center.
