Sociology Professor In the News

Distinguished Sociology Professor Nancy Foner has been very busy and involved in numerous projects:

  • Prof. Foner has been appointed as a member of the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council Panel on The Integration of Immigrants into American Society.  The panel will be meeting several times in 2014 and 2104 with the goal of producing a final report.
  • In recent months Prof. Foner has published (as editor) two books:
    • One Out of Three:  Immigrant New York in the Twenty-First Century, Columbia University Press, 2013. 
    • New York and Amsterdam:  Immigration and the New Urban Landscape (NYU Press, 2014, Nancy Fonner, Jan Rath, Jan Willem Duyvendak, and Rogier van Reekum, editors). 
      • There was an event to launch the book at the Netherlands Club in New York on February 11th and there will be another one at the University of Amsterdam on April 14th.   Product Details
    • Prof. Foner has recently given a keynote address at an immigration conference:
      • Keynote Address, "Comparing Immigrant Integration in the U.S. and Western Europe:  How Much Do the Grand Narratives Tell Us?" (with Richard Alba) Fourth Annual University of California International Migration Conference, San Diego, California, January 31, 2014
      • Prof. Foner will aso be giving another keynote presentation on March 3, 2014:
        • Keynote Presentation, "Immigrants in America, Past and Present," for a conference on the Church and Immigration, University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana.
