List of faculty associated with the Athena Honors Program


Dr. James Muyskens is the former president of Queens College. He is a graduate of Central College in Iowa and earned a master of divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Michigan. He began his career at Hunter College, rising from assistant professor to professor of philosophy. He served as chair of Hunter’s Department of Philosophy and as associate provost and acting provost. He spent seven years as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas before serving as senior vice chancellor for academic affairs of the 34-campus University System of Georgia. His publications include two books,The Sufficiency of Hope and Moral Problems in Nursing: A Philosophical Investigation, as well as many articles about the philosophy of religion and ethics.

BlauDanielle Blau's mere eye was selected for a Poetry Society of America Chapbook Award and published in 2013 with an introduction by D.A. Powell. Her poems, short stories, articles, and interviews have appeared and are forthcoming in such publications as Black Clock, Harvard Review, Narrative Magazine, Ploughshares, The Atlantic online, The Literary Review, The New Yorker’s book blog, The Wolf, and the Argos Books poetry anthology Why I Am Not a Painter. She recently won first place for her poetry in the multi-genre Narrative 30 Below Contest and has been a semifinalist for such honors as the “Discovery”/ Boston Review Poetry Prize, the Baltic Writing Residency, and the Gregory O’Donoghue International Poetry Prize.
