Biography:

Dr. Ana Paulino, ACSW, Ed.D., is an Associate Professor at the Hunter College School of Social Work.  Dr. Paulino has her MSW from New York University School of Social Work and her Ed.D. from Columbia University Teachers College.  Her work exemplifies her strong dedication and advocacy in the areas of education, child welfare, family services, health, and mental health in the Latino community.  Her research and writing have focused on immigration, Dominican families in the United States, death and dying, spirituality, and mental health.  Dr. Paulino’s most recent research on Autism Spectrum Disorders includes her collaborative affiliation with the FILIUS Institute, University of Puerto Rico and other faculty members at Hunter College School of Social Work.  This cross cultural study seeks to understand the prevalence of ASD across race, ethnicity as well as the clinical significance of this diagnosis to the Latino families residing in New York.  She has presented on ASD at national and international conferences.  Dr. Paulino is co-editor of Immigrants and social work: Thinking beyond the borders of the United States.  She serves as a consulting editor for the Journal of Teaching in Social Work.  Her teaching expertise is in the areas of clinical practice with individuals and families, social work practice in school settings, and human behavior & the social environment III – child and adolescent focus.  She is a former recipient of several training grants from the state and city government for programs focusing on cultural competence, child welfare, and mental health issues. Dr. Paulino has served on the following Board of Directors: The Association of Mental Health Professionals, North Central Bronx Hospital, Alianza Dominicana , Inc., and the Institutional Review Board at Lenox Hill Hospital.  Dr. Paulino is a co-founder member of the Ampark Neighborhood School, elementary public school serving children of the Van Cortlandt Village, in the Bronx.  Dr. Paulino is the recipient of the 2010 Latino Social Work Task Force Leadership Award.
