Mentorship

We now know from research and personal stories that people have been able to achieve success with the help of formal and/or informal mentorship. As such, in order to assure that our BMI students have the best college experience and chance for success, we have created a formal mentorship program, which involves the Hunter College community.

We begin by matching each student with a dedicated, caring, and successful faculty member in accordance to the faculty members' specialty and the student's academic interest. The faculty member serves as a mentor to one team comprised of BMI students and this team is lead by a student team leader. Our goal is to create cohorts of powerful BMI members who will achieve all of their dreams through their relationship with their mentor.

For the 2012-2013 academic year, the following faculty and staff members served as mentors:

  • Professor Karen Phillips
  • Professor Terence Agbeyegbe
  • Professor Sigmund Shipp
  • Professor David Hodges
  • Dr. Marcia Cantarella
