ABOUT THE BEHAVIORAL RESPONSE TEAM
Hunter College is committed to the health and safety of the student body, and maintaining a productive learning and working environment. The Hunter College Behavioral Response Team is a group of professionals dedicated to providing support and assistance to students in crisis or in distress.
The BRT promotes a culture of mutual support and collaboration and is a resource designed for all students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
The Team is designed to:
- Identify those students in need of assistance
- Manage each incident effectively
- Provide structure for an effective method of addressing student behaviors
- Initiate appropriate intervention
- Eliminate a fragmented response
APPROPRIATE REFERRALS
All are encouraged to utilize the BRT when they observe behavior by a student that concerns them.
Examples of behavior appropriate for a BRT referral include:
- Extended absence from class by a typically engaged student
- Acts of hatred/discrimination/paranoia
- Incidents of bullying
- Written work or communication containing troubling themes or references
- Verbal or written threats made by a student
- Expression of suicidal ideation (written or verbal)
- Unusual or erratic behavior in class
- Extreme rudeness or insubordination
- Other action which is cause for concern or calls into question the safety of the student or the Hunter College Community
To alert the BRT to a concern, faculty, staff or students should complete and submit the BRT Referral Form. Your submission will be reviewed by members of the BRT. Please note that you may be contacted for additional information.
