1098T Tax Forms
1098T tax forms
are issued to Hunter College students who pay tuition and
fees from 1/1/07 - 12/31/07. Forms will be mailed on
or before 2/1/08. If you have not received your 1098T
and your address is the same as it was on 12/31/07, we will
mail you a duplicate form at no cost after 3/1/08. If
your address has changed since 12/31/07 and you did not report
it to the college timely, we will mail you a duplicate form
for a $5 fee. Please include your new address and check
or money order for $5 payable to Hunter College when requesting
your duplicate form.
Students
requesting duplicate 1098T for any years from 1998 - present
will be charged $5 per form. Please pay
the cashier or send in your payment with your request and
your copy will be processed shortly thereafter. You
must present a valid receipt in order to request your duplicate
1098T.
What expenses are
not included?
* room and board
or similar living expenses
* transportation
* meals
* books
* family expenses
* courses taken
for no credit (unless taken to improve job skills)
* expenses paid
at any other time than calendar year 2007 (1/1 - 12/31)

Frequently Asked
Questions:
1) Will I get a
1098T if financial aid covered my tuition and fee charges?
NO - however if your financial aid covered one semester and
not another in
2007, you will receive a form.
2) Are direct loans
included in my 1098T?
Yes, all monies you must repay are included in your 1098T
3) Will my 1098T
reflect payments I made during fiscal year 2007 for prior
semesters (2005, 2006, etc.)?
No, you do not receive credit for these payments.
4) If I made a payment
in 2007 for the Spring 2008 semester will I see it
reflected on my 2007 1098T?
Yes, it will appear on your 2007 1098T although it is for
next year.
5) Why does my student
ID number not appear on my 1098T?
If you have been assigned a student ID number that is not
a valid social
security number, we are forbidden to use it on your tax form.
If you have a
valid social security number that you want to have added to
your 1098T
form, please proceed to the OASIS, N217 and request the change.
(You
must be able to furnish you social security card as proof.)
6) How do I acquire
a 1098T if I did not receive one?
Please mail a $5 (per form) check or money order to the address
above and
request a duplicate form - please be sure to include your
name on file and
the last four digits of your social security number.
7) Since I received
a 1098T, am I qualified for one of the educational tax
credits?
If you receive a 1098T you are NOT automatically qualified
to receive one
of the educational tax credits. The determination of
eligibility is the
responsibility of the taxpayer.
8) Can I claim both
educational tax credits this year?
No, you can only select one of the credits for any given tax
year.
