Welcome to The Catalyst Scholarship Program

The Catalyst Scholarship Program at Hunter College was established in 2009 with an award from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE). The overall goals of the Program are to recruit, mentor and support talented students majoring in established or emerging fields within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), through their junior and senior years.
The Catalyst Scholarship Program seeks to enable low-income students from underrepresented populations who are pursuing undergraduate degrees at Hunter College to complete their undergraduate degrees and successfully move on to the next steps in their professional lives. The participating STEM programs at the College are Environmental Earth Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics and Physics. The Scholarship award is in the average amount of $6,500 annual scholarship and it is renewable for a period of two years.
Program's Goals:
- To increase recruitment, full-time enrollment, and retention of financially needy students in geosciences, computer science, mathematics and physics at Hunter College
- To increase retention through individually assigned faculty mentors, individualized academic and career planning, targeted support services and quality instruction
- To enhance student and faculty connections to the college community and support services offered through Hunter College
- To strengthen the collaboration between STEM disciplines within the College
- To establish faculty and peer mentoring programs in STEM departments
- To provide the skills, incentives and directions to put students on track for graduate school and/or successful professional careers
- To increase the skilled labor pool in high demand technical fields
