Hunter Continuing Ed is pleased to introduce a varied program for students from Early Childhood through High School during the delayed start of NYC Public Schools. Along with Hunter programs we offer ar also offering other low-cost or no-cost activities as they become available. Please share this with friends and family who have students at home looking for activities!


Hunter Programs

  • For Early Childhood and Elementary School-Age Kids
    1. Music for Children: up to Age 8, Mon-Fri, 9/14-9/18, 10:30-11:10 am; $149/5 sessions
    2. Italia!: An introduction to Italian culture for kids up to Age 8: Date TBD: $29 for the family-friendly session

  • For Middle School-Age Kids
    1. Diagnostic HSEE Test, plus Score Review & Custom Study Plan: for 8th graders applying to selective high schools; Sat 9/12; FREE
    2. The "Speak Up" Middle School Club: for students in·grades 6-8 interested in creative writing and performance; Tue/Wed/Fri, 9/15, 9/16, 9/18; 11-12 Noon; $99/3 sessions

  • For Early Childhood and Elementary School-Age Kids

    1. Music for Children: up to Age 8 

    For the Joys of Music. For the Beauty of Earth. For our Love of Children and their Families everywhere, this progrm offers possibilities for enriching the lives of young children through age 8. During these challenging times more than ever, we need music to sing, to dance, to play and create, to experience the joys of music, all the while, tickling all our intelligences.

    5 Themes: 1. Music of the Mountains; 2. Music of Rain; 3. Music of the Garden; 4. Music to Travel to the Hole at the Bottom of the Sea; 5. Music of the Rainbow

    *Example: "Music of the Mountains" theme: Children will celebrate the beauty of mountains, sing in The Field of Daisies, vocally "scale" the mountains (Do, Re, Mi ...), dance with Cotton Eyed Joe, play in an Earthchestra™ of rocks, and sticks, leaves and pine cones... For this session we invite the children to look around their home and parks for instruments and props to add to the mix. Two rocks, two sticks, two spoons (metal & or wood) a little bag of leaves, two pine cones if easily found. Watch a News 12 video article of Mary Ann Hall's method.

    For each class, children, you bring something to shake, some things to tap, a metal or wooden bowl to drum and any instruments available. Also for movement, please bring a scarf or ribbons, wands or a towel. If you can’t find any of these things easily, don’t worry. You will do fine!

    2. Italia!: A Magical, Musical Travel Adventure to Italy for Kids up to Age 8

    Discover your familiy's roots or introduce your child to the riches of Italian culture, through music and movement and a vritual trip to la Bella Italia! For the class, children should bring something to shake, some things to tap, a metal or wooden bowl to drum and any instruments available. For movement, bring a scarf or ribbons, wands or a kitchen towel. If you can’t find any of these things easily, don’t worry. You will do fine! 

    Parents and little siblings are welcome to join this session. Italia! is a pilot, in partnership with Hunter's Parliamo Italiano. Subject to interest, it may be expanded to a regular course during the school year.

    For Middle School-Age Kids

    1. FREE Diagnostic HSEE Test, plus Score Review & Custom Study Plan

    Dates: Sat 9/12; Wed 9/16
    Time: 10:00 am - 1:30 pm
    (later if student is entitled to extra time)
    Administered by: Academic Approach
    Location: Zoom

    Desinged for 8th Grade students applying to NYC's Selective High Schools and other selective schools. When you register your student for our free online Diagnostic High School Entrance Exam (HSEE), you give your child a head start. Our HSEE Diagnostic Test covers content and sample questions from NYC's SHSAT, the ISEE, SSAT, TACHS and other tests.

    Each testing student and parent/guardian will be entitled to a free score review session with a Student Success Specialist. You will build a customized study plan to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Our Student Success Specialists can also answer questions about the upcoming entrance exams and how best to prepare for them. Families will have an opportunity to enroll in our HIgh School Entrance Exam Test Prep course, scheduled around the administration of the NYC SHSAT. 

    Note: NYC's DOE has announced that the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) has been moved and will now be administered Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8.

    2. The "Speak Up" Middle School Club 

    The "Speak Up" Middles School Club is for students in grades 6-8 who have an interest in creative writing and performance. They will have an opportunity to work with Alice Renier, a professional theater artist and educator who has worked with many of the most respected theaters in New York City. Participants will write pieces inspired by current events and personal experience, then workshop their work in a performance-based atmosphere for their peers. The series will culminate in an online sharing for invited guests. Limited to 10 students. Register now!

    For High School Students

    1. Adobe Essential Design Certificate FREE Open House: Monday, September 14 at 6 pm

    Calling all Creatives! This fall, master the design tools essential for today’s world of digital graphics. If you like to create, and would like to take your design and computer skills to the next level, our Adobe Essential Design Certificate will help! With this certificate program you can: Build your resume. Build your digital toolkit. Create stellar presentations for school projects, clubs, associations and more. Boost your marketability in high-demand fields. Gain skills for freelance work.

    2. FREE Diagnostic SAT, plus Score Review & Custom Study Plan

    When you register your student for our free online Diagnostic SAT, you give your student a valuable tool to get ready for the college testing process. Our Diagnostic SAT covers content and sample questions from the SAT to give you and your student a performance snapshot.

    Each testing student and parent/guardian will be entitled to a free score review session with a Student Success Specialist. You will build a customized study plan that identifies strengths and areas for improvement. Our Student Success Specialists can also answer questions about the different admissions tests and how best to prepare for them. Families will have an opportunity to enroll in test prep instructional classes, scheduled around the official administration dates of the SAT.

    3. Write Your Way into College: Open House for our Pre-College Writing Program: Thursday, 9/17 at 6 pm

    Part 1 - Write Your Way into College: This course focuses on the writing component of the college application. Students learn to produce meaningful and authentic writing for a personal statement that will capture the attention of admissions committees. Saturdays 9/26-10/31, 10 - 11:30 am. Enroll in the course now.

    Part 2: Top-Notch Academic Reading and Writing Skills: In this course, students will learn how to draw on complex and wonderful texts while strengthening their personal style of expression and exposition. This course gives learners the writing tools they need to succeed throughout college. Saturdays 11/14-12/19, 10 - 11:30 am  Enroll in the course now.
