Medical Coding and Billing

The Certificate in Medical Coding and Billing prepares students for a dynamic career in the health care industry. Students will step right into positions such as medical coder, abstracter, coding specialist, coding compliance auditor, reimbursement manager, collection supervisor and billing compliance specialist.

This certificate also prepares students to sit for the national certification exam given by the American Academy of Professional Coders, AAPC. Upon successfully passing the exam, candidates earn the credential, Certified Professional Coder, CPC, or CIC or COC for the Combined Certificate.

Registration and Tuition

This certificate consists of 5 required courses and an 80-hour online training available through the American Association of Professional Coders. Tuition for the Certificate In Medical Coding & Billing is $4,500 plus a one-time $35 registration fee, or you can register for each course individually plus the registration fee per semester. This certificate cannot be completed in one semester. Payment plan options are available.


To register for courses online, visit our online registration portal listed below. You may browse courses and register as a new or returning student. Certificate students, please visit or contact the registration office to select your course schedule per semester.


There is a particular order in which to take the courses ΜΆ Medical Terminology, ICD-10 Coding, CPT-4 Coding, Medical Billing with Practicum. 'Regulations I' can be taken at any time. If you are a registered nurse you do not need to take the Medical Terminology class. You must bring a transcript as proof you have completed this class.

Combined Certificate Opportunity: Certificate in Outpatient and Inpatient Medical Billing

The Combined Certificate In Outpatient and Inpatient Medical Billing is $5,600. Combined certificate students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the basic concepts of coding and billing for facility inpatient and outpatient services through completion of assigned practice exercises and case studies, and be able to pass a written examination demonstrating understanding and competency. Students are also exposed to the guidelines and principles for facility inpatient and outpatient, and hospital revenue cycles and payment methodologies.


Students interested in this program must complete all 5 courses outlined in the Medical Coding & Billing Certificate in their order, plus Inpatient Facility Coding and Outpatient Facility Coding.
