Medical Coding & Billing
The certificate program in Medical Coding and Billing prepares students for a dynamic career in the health care industry. Students will step right into positions such as medical coder, abstracter, coding specialist, coding compliance auditor, reimbursement manager, collection supervisor and billing compliance specialist.
The Medical Coding & Billing Certificate is designed for students who wish to acquire a thorough understanding of the human anatomy, the language used in the medical profession, regulations that govern the practice of medicine, and the knowledge of how to correctly code and bill for services provided. This certificate will also prepare students to sit for the national certification exam given by the American Academy of Professional Coders, AAPC. Upon successfully passing the exam, candidates will earn the credential, Certified Professional Coder, CPC, or CPCH for the Combined Certificate.

This certificate consists of 5 required courses and an 80-hour online training available through the American Association of Professional Coders. Tuition for the Medical Coding & Billing Certificate is $4,300 plus a one-time $35 registration fee, or you can register for each course individually plus the registration fee per semester. This certificate cannot be completed in one semester. Payment plan options are available for students who register in person.

There is a particular order in which to take the courses ̶ Medical Terminology, ICD-10 Coding, CPT-4 Coding, Medical Billing with Practicum. 'Regulations I' can be taken at any time. If you are a registered nurse you do not need to take the Medical Terminology class. You must bring a transcript as proof you have completed this class.

The combined certificate in Outpatient and Inpatient Medical Billing is $5,300. Combined certificate students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the basic concepts of coding and billing for facility inpatient and outpatient services through completion of assigned practice exercises and case studies, and be able to pass a written examination demonstrating understanding and competency. Students will also be exposed to the guidelines and principles for facility inpatient and outpatient, and hospital revenue cycles and payment methodologies.
Students interested in this program must complete all 5 courses outlined in the Medical Coding & Billing Certificate in their order, plus Inpatient Facility Coding and Outpatient Facility Coding.
