Italian Language

Our sister program - Parliamo Italiano - now offers an Italian Language Certificate Program. The Certificate in Italian is ideal for those who study Italian, who work and study within an Italian context, and professionals with limited time who feel they can benefit from learning or improving a new language. At the completion of the certificate you will speak like a native Italian. Students will have direct exposure to the Italian language and culture in an immersion setting.

Why Enroll?

Receiving an official certificate that indicates your knowledge level for Italian is useful in both the work environment and recreationally. Many companies that recruit foreign employees prefer candidates who know how to communicate in Italian with ease.

As an added benefit, students can select daytime or evening courses and are also eligible to attend one specialty or pop-up workshop per semester based on level and availability.

Registration and Tuition

The Certificate in Italian consists of 11 courses: elementary levels 1-5, intermediate levels 1-5, and Advanced. The certificate tuition is $5,000 plus a one-time $35 registration fee, and can be prorated for students who are placed in a higher level. You may also register for each course individually plus the registration fee per semester. This certificate cannot be completed in one semester.  Please contact Parliamo Italiano at parliamo@hunter.cuny.edu or 212-396-6653 to schedule a placement exam. Payment plan options are available for students who register in person. To register for courses online, visit our online registration portal listed below. You may browse courses and register as a new or returning student. Please visit or contact the registration office to select your course schedule per semester.

The certificate focuses on three areas of language competency: writing, pronunciation/speaking, and grammar.  To be awarded the Certificate in Italian, students must complete the highest level in the program with an average grade of C or higher.
