Course Information:
Integrating Leadership with Strategic Thinking and Change Management

Leadership $600
According to Warren Bennis,“the manager has his eye on the bottom line; the leader has his eye on the horizon.” Leadership and management are not the same thing. Managers tend to day-to-day operations and oversight and direct the efforts of others, while leaders look toward the future and inspire others to follow the vision. They create an environment in which people and organizations succeed. This course focuses on the three foundations of Leadership: vision, alignment and execution.  Each element is explored and participants will gain not only an appreciation for the qualities of a leader, but practical models to help them lead others.

The course has four modules:

  • Creating Change: An Introduction to Leadership
Define your leadership foundation and skills to create excitement around organizational change
  • Vision: Creating a Goal Star
Create a clear purpose that is meaningful to customers and energizing to staff
  • Alignment: Gaining commitment to perform
Practical strategies to align your team to perform at a higher level
  • Execution: Fulfilling the plan
Tools and strategies for making good on the promise of your vision

Organization Assessment and Strategic Planning $600
Whether you are starting up a new business or re-energizing one, this course will walk you through a comprehensive process of self-assessment and strategic planning to guide you to new opportunity and success in the marketplace. This course is intended for those leaders involved in organizational planning. In this course, you will:

  • Complete an organization "as-is analysis"
You will create an inventory of your organization's present state which will serve as a reference point for your work.
  • Complete an assessment of external and internal factors that point to future opportunities
You will complete a PEST Analysis which will provide information on external factors that have an influence on your future organization as well as a SWOT Analysis to determine internal capability.  With this information, you will identify key opportunities for your organization.
  • Review your mission
You will create a clearly defined mission that will serve as the cornerstone for all decisions impacting your organization.
  • Define core services and products
Based on the data that you have gathered from previous exercises, you will define the core competencies (products and services) that have the greatest appeal to customers and stakeholders.
  • Establish performance indicators
You will develop metrics to monitor your progress on set performance measures.
  • Create your brand and marketing plan
"It's not the same old newspaper ad!"  You will create your unique value proposition and a multi-channel communication and marketing strategy.

People Management $600
A manager’s job is to get results through others. As simple as this may sound, it is significantly different from the role of an individual contributor. This course presents practical, hands-on tools to successfully manage day-to-day operations. It is particularly useful for those who supervise the day to day work of others: managers, supervisors, team leads and project leads. This course covers the following topics:

  • Organizational culture: your cornerstone for management success
People experience the culture of the organization in corporate policies and processes, but their daily experience is the culture that you create for them. You will identify the culture of your organization and your own leadership style and create a plan for employee engagement.
  • Performance Management: empowering employees to take ownership
You will learn how to address performance issues by utilizing the performance model developed by Robert Mager and provide meaningful performance feedback to non-performing employees and those who perform.
  • Adaptive management techniques
A good manager practices “constructive manipulation.”  That is, they adapt their own leadership behavior to the developmental and motivational needs of their team members.  You will learn practical models to positively affect individual and team performance.
  • Employment compliance
A review of manager’s responsibilities under federal employment law - you will learn strategies for handling difficult situations that will minimize risk to your organization.
  • Mediation and conflict resolution
You will develop the skill to effectively mediate employee conflict.
