Whether you are interested in a career as a Paralegal or preparing to apply for Law School, the Legal Studies Certificate program will help you achieve your goal. At Hunter, we nurture your knowledge and study of law, and prepare you for a successful career in the legal field.
If you’re interested in an in-demand role and stable career with a flexible work environment and the ability to grow in the field, the Legal Studies certificate program at Hunter’s Continuing Education can prepare you for your career as a paralegal professional. Paralegals are ranked as the 27th best job in the U.S. by CNN Money, and cited by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics as having a faster than average growth rate. Trained to assist attorneys and help provide top legal services to clients, paralegals are highly trained experts at their jobs and the background and experience gained is a great advantage should these professionals decide to proceed into law school. Paralegals may not provide legal services directly to the public except as permitted by law, but they are highly sought in areas such as:
- Law firms
- Government agencies
- Corporate legal departments
- Real estate and title agencies
- Trade associations
- Armed forces
- Financial and educational institutions
Prospective students should be aware that some employers require training from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved program. The ABA, for a fee, approves programs that meet certain standards relating to how the program is administered and most ABA approved paralegal programs are credit based at an associate degree level. Although CE's certificate program is not ABA approved, we remain committed to our students in offering high quality continuing education courses that prepare students for paralegal jobs in a short amount of time and at an affordable price.
"I never would have applied or gotten an interview for my new paralegal job at the Legal Aid Society if I hadn’t taken Legal Research and Writing and Drafting Legal Instruments." - Ellen Sandhaus, graduate of the Legal Studies Certificate.
