Medical Coding and Billing Certificates

The Certificate program in Medical Coding and Billing will prepare students for a dynamic career in the health care industry. Students will step right into positions such as medical coder, abstracter, coding specialist, coding compliance auditor, reimbursement manager, collection supervisor and billing compliance specialist.


The Medical Coding & Billing Certificates are designed for students who wish to acquire a thorough understanding of the human anatomy, the language used in the medical profession, regulations that govern the practice of medicine, and the knowledge of how to correctly code and bill for services provided. The program will also prepare students to sit for the national certification exam given by the American Academy of Professional Coders, AAPC. Upon successfully passing the exam, candidates will earn the credential, Certified Professional Coder, CPC, or CPCH for the Combined Certificate.


Medical Coding and Billing Certificate $4,300

Registration & Tuition:

The Medical Coding and Billing Certificate consists of 5 required courses ($3800 value, 149 hours) and an 80-hour online training ($1,200 value) available through the American Association of Professional Coders. Courses must be taken in the following order: Medical Terminology, ICD-10 Coding, CPT-4 Coding, Medical Billing with Practicum. 'Regulations' can be taken at any time. The 80-hour online training covers the following topics: The Business of Medicine; Medical Anatomy and Terminology; ICD-10; and CPT-4.This extra feature is included in the price of the program. If you are a registered nurse you do not need to take the Medical Terminology class. You must bring a transcript as proof you have completed this class.


Tuition is $4,300 plus a one time $20 registration fee, or you can register for each course individually, with a $20 registration fee per semester. The 80-hour online training includes written materials, quizzes, lectures and chapters' review exams. Students will also have an opportunity to take a final exam that will prepare them to sit for the CPC certification exam. An additional workbook and textbook for CPC, which is valued at $89.95, is included in the tuition fee. Students will have access to the online training for 10 months.

Combined Certificate in Outpatient and Inpatient Medical Billing $5,300

Through this Combined Certificate, students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the basic concepts of coding and billing for facility inpatient and outpatient services through completion of assigned practice exercises and case studies and pass a written examination demonstrating understanding and competency in the above. Students will also be exposed to:

  • Guidelines and principles for facility inpatient and outpatient
  • Hospital revenue cycles, payment methodologies


Students interested in this program must complete all 5 courses outlined in the Medical Coding & Billing Certificate as well as the 2 courses below:

  • Inpatient Facility Coding: Prerequisites Medical Terminology, ICD-10 and CPT-4
  • Outpatient Facility Coding: Prerequisites Medical Terminology, ICD-10 and CPT-4


 Payment Plan options are available. Students must register in person to enroll in a payment plan option. Coding Textbooks:
