Translation and/or Interpretation
The New York metro community has a fast-growing need for qualified, professionally trained interpreters and translators. If you are fluent in English and Spanish, enjoy translating written materials from one language to another, or enjoy interpreting spoken language, meaning and context, our certificates in Translation and Interpretation Studies are designed for you.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the translation and interpretation fields are projected to grow by 29% in the next decade; a faster rate than the average for all occupations. As diversity increases, so will the need for spoken and written language translators and interpreters. Job prospects for these professionals are expected to increase by nearly 20,000 by 2024. Our skilled instructors in the Translation and Interpretation Studies Certificates at Hunter’s Continuing Education have the educational background and the real-world experience to best prepare you for work in this exciting and growing field. What’s more, Hunter’s Continuing Education is an institutional member of the American Translators Association, Society of Medical Interpreters. The Translation Studies and Interpretation Studies certificates each consist of 4 core courses and 3 electives. Tuition for each is $4,200 plus a one-time $35 registration fee. A combined certificate in Translation and Interpretation is also available for $5,200 and consists of 6 core courses and 3 electives. Payment plans are available. These courses are not available individually; students must register for the entire program.
Fluency in both English and Spanish is needed, including strong writing skills in both languages. Students must attend an open house to take the placement test and oral interview. Open houses are listed on our website before the start of each semester.
Many businesses, unions, trade associations, and government programs offer reimbursement for the cost of these certificate programs. Several types of payment vouchers are also accepted.
