Master of Arts Program in Biochemistry

The Department of Chemistry, jointly with the Department of Biology (http://sonhouse.hunter.cuny.edu/), offers a Master of Arts Degree in Biochemistry that allows students to learn, advance, and succeed in the exciting and diverse field of biochemistry. The program provides students with advanced training and research opportunities in biochemistry that lay a solid foundation for pursuing doctoral studies biochemistry and related fields or that can lead directly to work in biomedical research, government, and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.  The M.A. degree is offered either as a terminal degree or as core studies toward the Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry at the City University of New York. The program is flexible and designed for students with a baccalaureate degree in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, chemical engineering or health sciences who are interested in developing a career in biochemistry.

The course of study toward the M.A. in Biochemistry typically consists of 10 courses that total 30 credits.  Students have the option to complete the program by doing a research thesis (6 credits of the 30 total) or by taking a comprehensive exam. Normal completion time is 2 years for full-time students or up to 4 years for a part-time work.  Evening classes are available to suit the needs of part-time students.
