Brian is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Department of Anthropology at Purdue University. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociomedical Sciences from Columbia University, where he studied Anthropology, Sociology and Public Health.
His work has centered upon drug use, sexual health, and youth cultures, with a recent focus on club drugs. More broadly his research interests lie in the political economy of health, cross-cultural research on youth, and the link between social capital and health disparities.
Brian has previously been the Principal Investigator of a National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Grant # R03 DA016171-01 titled “Club Drug Use and HIV Risk among Mobile Suburban Youth” and is currently conducting a new project titled “Emerging Trends in Tryptamine Use: Contexts and Risks” (R03 DA 021259-01). Currently, he is the Division Chair of the Drinking & Drugs Division of the Society for the Study of Social Problems.
