Juline Koken' s Curriculum Vitae.
Juline Koken's MI Biography.

Dr. Juline Koken joined CHEST in 2002 and is currently a Project Director. Her research interests center on the health impact of social marginalization, particularly among individuals managing concealable stigmas such as HIV infection, gender and sexual minorities, substance use / abuse, and sex workers. She explores these issues through the lens of coping and resiliency theories and specializes in qualitative and mixed methods research. Juline has extensive experience designing and conducting manualized treatment interventions and is currently collaborating on a behavioral intervention for HIV+ youth in Thailand. Currently, she is developing a grant proposing the application of Spiritual Self Schema counseling for drug and alcohol dependent HIV+ older adults.   Juline is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as a therapist, and in Motivational Interviewing as a therapist, supervisor, and trainer. She leads the CHEST Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity coding team and is also a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).

Juline recently completed her PhD in Social-Personality Psychology at the CUNY Graduate Center with a certificate in Women’s Studies. Her dissertation research examined the ways in which independent female escorts coped with the stressors associated with performing sex work, as well as managing the impact of sex work related stigma on their personal lives.  This project identified the ways in which independent female escorts work to maintain their health, safety, and happiness while maximizing their profit in this business.
Juline has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Social Psychology and the Psychology of Human Sexuality at Hunter College, and is currently a post-doctoral Fellow in Behavioral Science Training at the National Development and Research Institutes, Public Health Solutions
