Dr. John Pachankis is an Assistant Professor at Yeshiva University’s Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, where he teaches courses in cognitive-behavior therapy and supervises student research on identity, stigma, and mental health. At CHEST, he is currently supervising the psychotherapeutic interventions for the Young Men’s Health Project (YMHP) and the Adherence, Counseling, and Education (ACE) studies.
Dr. Pachankis’s research broadly examines the psychological consequences of identity-related stressors in stigmatized individuals. He is currently investigating the impact of stigma concealment, disclosure, and social support on the mental health of gay men and individuals with HIV. His previous studies established the impact of parental and societal rejection on outcomes like social anxiety and rejection sensitivity in gay men. Dr. Pachankis is interested in testing the effectiveness of empirically supported treatments tailored to individuals facing these difficulties.
