Summer Arabic Program at Hunter

Hunter College will offer Arabic 101 and 102 in the summer of 2014 in 2 intensive 4-week sessions.

As in the academic-year program, ARB 101 and 102 are each 3-credit courses.

ARB 101 and 102 are not open to native/heritage speakers as determined by the Arabic program at Hunter.

Textbooks:

  • Brustad et al. Alif Baa: Introduction to Arabic Letters and Sounds (3rd edition). Georgetown University Press, 2010. ISBN: 9781589016323 (1589016327).
  • Brustad et al. Al-Kitaab fii ta’allum al-‘Arabiyya A Textbook for Beginning Arabic Part 1 (3rd edition). Georgetown University Press, 2011. ISBN: 9781589017368 (1589017366).
  • Hans Wehr. The Hans Wehr Dictionary for Written Arabic. Spoken Language Services, 1993. ISBN: 9780879500030 (0879500034).

You can expect to reach approximately chapter 3 of al-Kitaab part 1 by the end of ARB 101 and approximately chapter 9 of al-Kitaab part 1 by the end of ARB 102.

Please note that Hunter College does not offer credit for the 101 course of any language sequence until the 102 course has also been successfully completed.

It is possible to skip ARB 101 and join the class for ARB 102 only with permission of the head of the summer Arabic Program.
