Dean David Steiner talks to Mayoral Candidate Bill de Blasio at Roosevelt House on August 1 at 8 am
The first of these forums will be held at 8:00 am on August 1, when David Steiner, CIEP Director and Hunter College Dean of Education, talks to candidate Bill de Blasio, current Public Advocate, about the future of the City's public education system. Would he cede mayoral control? Would he support charter schools? Would he move to implement rigorous teacher evaluations?David Steiner, a former commissioner of education for New York State, who has been credited with leading Hunter College's teacher education programs to be among the strongest in the nation will lead the discussion. As New York State Commissioner, Dr. Steiner helped win a $700 million federal Race to the Top grant for New York and pioneered improved standards to make the state's students college- and career-ready.
