In Memoriam: Evelyn H. Lauder (Hunter College '58) 1936–2011

It is with profound sadness that the Hunter College community mourns the loss of a great humanitarian and distinguished alumna whose generosity and keen interest in students and faculty extended to the labs and classrooms of her beloved alma maters, Hunter College High School and Hunter College.

Evelyn was a visionary who worked passionately towards the goal of finding a cure for breast cancer. Hunter College was fortunate to be able to assist in that goal through the generosity of Evelyn's support to the College's breast cancer research lab. She contributed in so many other ways through her work on the Hunter College Visioning Board and the leadership committee of the High School endowment campaign. She received an honorary degree from the College in 2004 and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the High School in 2010.

Her extraordinary life story of immigration, hard work and success will continue to serve as an inspiration to the many Hunter College students who follow in her footsteps.
