East Harlem Art Gallery Hosts Multimedia Exhibit by Alejandro Durán

A multimedia exhibit by Alejandro Durán, a Mexican-born, New York-based artist whose work addresses the issue of plastic pollution in the world's oceans, is on display at the Hunter College East Harlem Art Gallery. The exhibit began on Thursday, October 30, 2014.

Durán, whose work features photography, installation, video and poetry, focuses on the shores of Sian Ka'an, Mexico's largest federally protected reserve. Sian Ka'an, located in the Yucatan Peninsula, is home to more than 20 pre-Colombian archaeological sites and features turquoise waters with a vast array of flora and fauna and the world's second largest costal barrier reef. Sadly, the area is also a repository for the world's trash, carried there by ocean currents from around the globe.

Alejandro Durán, "Washed Up: Transforming a Trashed Landscape" will run through Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Hunter College East Harlem Art Gallery, 2180 Third Avenue at 119th Street. For additional information and exhibit hours, click here.
