Hunter students Michelle Balon, Hunter Gross, Umila Singh, Michael Oman-Reagan, and Jeanne Michaels have been awarded Critical Language Scholarships from the U.S. Department of State to study “critical needs” languages during the summer of 2013.

The CLS Program is part of a U.S. government effort to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering critical foreign languages. It provides fully funded, group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences. This summer, Critical Language Scholars will spend seven to ten weeks in intensive language institutes in 13 countries.

Michelle Balon will study Arabic in Morocco, Hunter Gross will study Chinese in China, Umila Singh will study Hindi in India, Michael Oman-Reagan will study Indonesian in Indonesia, and Jeanne Michaels will study Japanese in Japan.
