Hunter Alumna Wins Highly Prestigious Research Fellowship in Neuroscience
Vanessa Ruta '99, a neuroscientist, is the winner of a Sloan Research Fellowship. The fellowship is awarded to early-career-researchers who demonstrate extraordinary promise; 39 Sloan Research Fellows have gone on to win the Nobel Prize.
Ruta heads the Laboratory of Neurophysiology and Behavior at Rockefeller University, where she leads studies exploring how a brain's neural circuits are modified by experience. At Hunter she majored in chemistry and worked in the laboratory of Professor Charles Michael Drain.
