Hunter Listed in Princeton Review Green College Guide

Hunter College is one of 286 U.S. colleges and universities selected for inclusion in the Princeton Review's "Guide to Green Colleges." The Guide, presented in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council, lists "colleges and universities that have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to sustainability." Hunter was one of three CUNY colleges included in the Guide.

The Guide noted that "Hunter Green is both a color and a commitment at Hunter College." It cited the College's creation of the Hunter College Sustainability Council in response to New York City Mayor Bloomberg's "30 in 10" challenge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent within 10 years. It also highlighted the Council's 10-year Sustainability Plan and recognized Hunter's green initiatives: a campus-wide recycling program; the installation of occupancy sensors in many rooms to turn off lights automatically; and the renovation of the swimming pool which resulted in significant energy efficiencies, through a heat-conserving cover and an energy-saving dehumidification system.
