Ernest Tubb

The Hunter community mourns the untimely loss of Ernest Tubb, a magna cum laude graduate of the College's SEEK program and a devoted, highly effective administrator.

Ernie joined Hunter's staff in 1980, working first in Admissions and then in the Office of the Registrar. He served generations of appreciative students, and during his 36-year tenure, always succeeded in providing faculty and staff with the data and help they needed.

For Ernie, the people at Hunter were family, and this feeling was reciprocated by everyone who knew him well. He was a good sport when teased by colleagues about sharing his name with a country-western star, but he let it be known that at Richmond Hill High School in Queens, far from the Grand Ole Opry, he sang with a teenage doo-wop group.

Admired by all for his knowledge, patience, problem-solving skills and unfailing good nature,
Ernie received a Presidential HEO Award in 2006 for outstanding service and achievement. Today we remember Ernest Tubb with deep affection and gratitude, and we will miss him greatly.

A memorial will be held for Ernie on Friday, November 18, from 4:30-6:30 PM in the 3rd Floor Cafeteria (3rd Floor, West Building).

Additionally, we are proud to announce that donations to The Ernest Tubb Emergency Relief Fund, for Hunter students facing an emergency, can be made online at
