In Remembrance: Herman Badillo

Hunter mourns the loss of Herman Badillo, the eminent public official who died in Manhattan on December 3.

Herman Badillo graduated with high honors from The City College of New York and Brooklyn Law School before embarking on a distinguished career in public service. The self-described "first Puerto Rican everything," Badillo was in fact the first Puerto Rican U.S. congressman, city commissioner and borough president. He also served as deputy under Mayor Edward I. Koch and counsel to Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani.

Badillo was a valued friend to Hunter, serving for 13 years on the CUNY Board of Trustees, and chairing the Board from 1999 to 2001.

President Jennifer J. Raab and the entire Hunter community remember Herman Badillo's extraordinary contributions and extend heartfelt condolences to his family.
