President Raab Welcomes Leader Nancy Pelosi, New York Lawmakers to Hunter to Advocate for Women’s Economic Security

On October 4, President Raab was joined by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, members of the New York congressional delegation, paid family leave advocates, and Hunter students to discuss an economic agenda that prioritizes the role of women in our economy. This initiative-"When Women Succeed, America Succeeds"-is a nationwide effort undertaken by Leader Pelosi to expand economic opportunity for women across the country.

"The strength of our country depends on the economic security of America's women and families," said Leader Pelosi. "By enacting a policy that ensures equal pay, promotes work and family balance, and provides affordable child care, we will unleash the power of America's women and help guarantee that future generations will enjoy our country's promise of equal rights, equal treatment, and equal opportunity. This agenda will reaffirm that when women succeed, America succeeds."

Noting the important role that Hunter has played in educating the next generation of female leaders, President Raab highlighted Hunter's own place in history. "There is no better place to hold this event than here on Hunter's campus. Hunter has always been a place for women to get a first-class education and that is as true today is it was when we were founded in 1870. Thank you to our guests for recognizing our tremendous commitment to women."

In addition to Leader Pelosi, Hunter was honored to host Representatives Carolyn Maloney and Nydia Velazquez, NYS Senator Gustavo Rivera, City Council Members Letitia James and Gail Brewer, and advocates from across New York State.
