Princeton Review Names Hunter One of Nation’s Greenest Colleges

The Princeton Review has just named Hunter one of the “greenest” colleges in the United States. On April 20 - in time for the April 22 celebration of Earth Day - the famed Review released the second annual edition of its “Guide to 311 Green Colleges,” which includes Hunter among those top-raters. Published in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council, the Guide “focuses solely on colleges that have demonstrated a notable commitment to sustainability,” explains the Review.

Noting that 703 schools were investigated for their “Green Ratings,” the Review says that the 311 colleges listed in the Guide - which were not ranked hierarchically - all received ratings in the 80th or higher percentile. Among the factors that contributed to Hunter’s high score were that an environmental studies degree is available; the school employs a sustainability officer; and the school provides guidance on green jobs.

“Green is a commitment at Hunter College,” says the Princeton Review website, which goes on to say that Hunter’s Sustainability Council has developed a 10-year Sustainability Plan focusing on energy efficiency and operations; curriculum and faculty development; student involvement; procurement and dining; fleet and transportation; waste and recycling; communications; and professional development.

This is far from the first time the Princeton Review has cited Hunter. Earlier this year, the Review named Hunter one of the top ten “Best Value” public colleges in the nation - for the third consecutive year.
