Professor Nokes Awarded a Fulbright to Help Strengthen Nursing Education in Durban, South Africa

Professor Kathleen Nokes, assistant dean for graduate studies and director of the graduate nursing program at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, has been awarded a Fulbright Specialist grant in public/global health. Under the grant, Dr. Nokes will work at Durban University of Technology in South Africa during July and August.

One main goal of Nokes’s project is to help the university’s nursing faculty study the need for a greater focus on HIV/AIDS education and training; another is to assist the faculty and individual students in nursing and health sciences in developing their research.

Nokes has been appointed an honorary professor of research at Durban University of Technology. Her work under the current Fulbright Grant will build on her 2005 appointment as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of KwaZulu Natal, also in Durban.
